Lime: Successful Projects with RHI Refractories   08/18/2005

1. RHI Refractories supplies all refractory materials and the basic engineering for the new construction of an annular shaft kiln at SCHAEFER KALK GmbH & Co KG in Germany.
SCHAEFER KALK GmbH & Co KG is building a new annual shaft kiln (make Cimprogetti) at its Hahnstätten plant near Limburg. RHI will supply approx. 610 tons of refractories. For decades SCHAEFER KALK has relied on the refractory expertise of RHI Refractories with the brands VEITSCHER, DIDIER and RADEX as experts for the lime industry.

2. RHI Refractories supplies all refractories including engineering and installation for the construction of a new annular shaft kiln at Fels-Werke GmbH in Germany.
For many years RHI Refractories - as VEITSCHER, DIDIER and RADEX before - has been the strong partner of Fels-Werke GmbH. All modernization work on kilns has been done with the assistance of RHI or companies that now belong to the RHI Group. Fels-Werke GmbH has contracted the lime division of RHI to provide the entire refractory engineering, supply of refractories and the installation of the refractory materials. Together with MARVO Feueungs- und Industriebau GmbH – a new RHI AG subsidiary – the “projects from one expert source” concept will be implemented. Approximately 590 tons of refractories will be supplied.

3. RHI Refractories supplies all refractories including engineering and installation for the modernization of a shaft kiln with side burner and lance
(Pilot Project with Maerz Ofenbau AG)
As first producer worldwide, Fels-Werke GmbH is rebuilding an existing shaft combined firing kiln to a firing system with central lance and side burners. This pilot project was realized with the assistance of the experienced and competent partners RHI AG and Maerz Ofenbau. RHI supplies the entire refractory engineering including refractories and installation from a single source. The total volume of refractories for the rebuilding of the kiln is over 1,500 tons. The main reason for awarding the contracts for these projects to RHI was the refractory expertise of RHI in the lime kiln sector in cooperation with RHI Refractories Technology Center in Leoben.

4. RHI supplies refractories and refractory engineering for the new kiln at Villaga Calce in Italy (prototype of a rectangular 450 ton Maerz kiln).
The Maerz company has realized its new rectangular kiln type (450 tons/day) as pilot project at Villaga Calce in Italy. The development of the refractory engineering took place in close cooperation with the experienced design engineers at RHI AG. The customer relies on RHI AG to supply the refractories since the expertise of RHI is in high regard due to the experience gained with the existing kilns in Italy.

5. RHI supplies the refractories and the refractory engineering for 3 new Maerz kilns with suspended internal cylinders in Mexico (Calidra Group). New kiln systems will also be supplied in addition to a further rectangular Maerz kiln.
The Calidra Group in Mexico is investing in 3 new plants. In regard to the firing systems they selected the newly designed and developed Maerz kilns with suspended internal cylinder. Up to now there is only 1 prototype worldwide in Poland. In close cooperation with Maerz Ofenbau AG the refractory engineering was enhanced in great detail. The Calidra Group opted for the refractory lining to be supplied by RHI who is an adequate partner based on their extensive service and international manufacturing locations (plants in Mexico). The total volume of refractories to be supplied is in the range of 1,500 tons.

6. The Carmeuse Group – worldwide the second largest lime producer – is heading East together with RHI. With its know-how about Maerz kilns, RHI’s specialized lime division is the competent partner for rebuilding kilns in Hungary and Rumania. Five existing Maerz kilns have already been completely relined by RHI as part of major repair projects.
